75th Exchange

The 1990s included the celebration of the 75th Exchange in 1992 – 1993. The November 1992 half was held at the Detroit Curling Club. The local community TV channel (Bloomfield) shot a video celebrating the 75th exchange. A few clips from that video are included at the bottom of this page.

A pin was struck for this occasion.——————— A cake was baked and decorated carefully.

…..

To commemorate the 75th Exchange, The Detroit curlers presented this plaque to the KW curlers in Detroit in November 1992. From the left are: Carl Ingraham, Les Houston (accepting for KW) and Joe Livermore (presenting on behalf of Detroit)

One long time tradition in curling is to have the curlers piped onto the ice at the beginning of the first game. The piper and the the honoured host (in this case Doug White) toast each other with a dram of scotch.
This was at the old Detroit club which was on Drake Rd in West Bloomfield, northwest of the city of Detroit.

Here are the curlers lined up after being piped in. They are watching the piper’s toast with envy.

The following is a curling tradition which has faded away. If a curler failed to get a rock over the hog line, they were humiliated further by having to put a quarter in the pig!
Here Bill Rennie pays his quarter while Harry Wylie rubs it in by holding the pig’s tail up!

Gathered in the bar area of the Detroit club Is: Jack Blamey, Alex Murray and Don Hudspeth.

Here are Gord McConnell and Earl Schedwitz.
