84th Exchange

KW Granite Club: March 16 – 18, 2001

The Exchange was held at the old KW Granite club rink on Agnes St in Kitchener.

The organizers this year were Les Houston and Ian Anderson.

Lunch on Saturday was held in the KW Granite dining room.

Don Fanstone was the master of ceremonies.

After lunch there is time to tell some stories. Norm Litchfield has the audience’s attention.

Most people are paying attention. Although Pat Bourke (in the green) appears to be asleep!
Charlie Clark is in the red sweater in the middle of the picture.
Charlie was a long time member of the exchange who passed away in Jan 2009.

On Saturday, there is a raffle for a special prize. This year it was a Conestogo wagon.
On the left is Leroy Bliven, who won the wagon. He is sitting with Cec Brodeur. Cec was a long time member of the Exchange. He used to play the piano at the Sunday Sinner’s breakfasts in Kitchener.

.

For many years there was a trophy that was given to the winner of the exchange. One year when Detroit won the trophy (a rare occurrence) it “disappeared”. Bob McMillan (In the middle) of KW donated a new one. On the left is Harry Wylie and on the right Don Fanstone.

Mixing the drinks at the Sinner’s breakfast are Frank Quinto and Paul Sellner.

Joe Livermore gives Bill Lynn some advice. In the background are Hugh Smith, Ian Smith and Jim Livermore.

.

Waiting for breakfast are Ralph Drouare and Dave Hesse

From the left are: ?#1?, Leroy Bliven, Rod Steinman, Bob Glendenning, Graham Wallbank. (Mar 01)

The Sinner’s choir sings one hymn at the breakfast: “Softly & Tenderly” The leader is Lorne Kuntz. Don Fanstone introduces the “Deacon” (Pat Bourke).

The “Deacon” initiates the newcomers to the exchange. The newcomers are kneeling.
Their sponsors stand behind. Watch out for the spray!

Standing from the left: Don Warthman, Les Houston, Gord McConnell and Bill Lynn. (Mar 01)

At each end of the Exchange, the person who tells the best story is awarded the Bombay Bicycle Club trophy.
Years ago, Jack Blamey told a story about the Bombay Bicycle Club that was deemed so good that
a trophy was created, and named after the story.
At this Exchange, Ken Zryd told the best story and holds the famous trophy.

And finally a word from the organizers of the Kitchener end of the 84th Exchange:
Les Houston and Ian Anderson.
